Our Story
Our company director, Monique, describes their time at a semi-independent YMCA provision in the rural area of Croydon as the peak point of her life. Monique was raised by her grandparents in a small community in Jamaica, and due to the absence of her parents, who were seeking a better life in the UK, she was exposed to poverty in her youth. Monique came to the UK when she was fourteen and was reunited with her mother for the first time in over a decade. Sadly, Monique struggled with maintaining healthy relationships due to her abandonment and suffered from low self-esteem and pent-up anger. For Monique, this resulted in depression, substance misuse, domestic abuse, and an unprepared pregnancy.
The YMCA supported Monique with her educational needs and helped her and her mother to attend therapeutic sessions at the Turnaround Centre in Croydon. After years of encountering the barriers that accompany emotional and mental trauma, Monique went on to have great success at university. She gained employment working with and supporting young people from various walks of life while raising her own family at the same time.
Adair Support was founded to help prevent any child from facing similar situations and emotions that Monique was exposed to. We provide a ‘Home’ where young people can be inspired and receive unconditional support every step of the way. We believe that there is always a way to turn every young person’s negative experience in their early formative years into something positive and great.
